Kiatuthlanna Research Center

Kiatuthlanna, Zuni meaning: "Place of the Big Water."  According to Zuni legend Kiatuthlanna was the first village on the journey to Center Earth.  This journey began at a place called "The Meadows"  just to the south.

This Archaeological site is under surveillance and is currently protected as an Archaeological Preserve.  Future research will primarily be non intrusive with a very limited area designated for excavations.  It is our goal to conduct limited yet quality research and comprehensive data collection within a designated small area.  The vast majority of this irreplaceable site will be protected for further research by future generations.

Our first line of action "Protection"

When we first acquired this site we found that small scale looting was taking place.  Our little "no trespassing" signs were not enough to keep people out so we began a process of protection and made it our first and foremost priority.

What has worked for us

1.) We recruited local site stewards to be our eyes and ears

2.) Placement of a five wire barbed fence

3.) Extensive no trespassing signs

4.) Extensive hidden cameras and motion alarms

5.) We work closely with BLM Special Agents
